About Me
Carl Walker was born on a hot Boston-summer day in June. Being the one of the middle children of 7 children, he had to watch the shows, and listen to the music of his parents and older siblings. This only gave him a greater appreciation of performing arts. Having an artistic family, Carl had aunts, cousins and some of his brothers that formed singing groups and bands. Watching them practice was a one of the highlights in his life. Helping with some of their amateur talent shows, he would help his brother's band to setup for shows at the Joseph Lee School. After high school, Carl worked a lot of odd jobs: Bank teller, store manager, mail clerk, and a lot of temp-jobs. It wasn't until he found his own voice on the stage that his career interest took a turn. He found his voice. A few years later, Carl went to college to major in broadcast radio/TV. During his first year, his broadcast professor made him an offer. Len would give him a two-hour time slot, if Carl would format the show with jazz music. He agreed as long as he could have two weeks to build a library, and study the music style and history. Before this, Carl's only exposure to jazz music was what his elder family members would listen to, and what was played on the pop/r&b top 40 radio stations. The two hour show was the start of The Jazzman At Nite. During the summers, Carl would produce and hosted a four hour morning-drive jazz show. His GPA was at 3.74, he had the only jazz show on the school's radio and his career path was laid out for him. During his second year of college, what Carl thought was simple cold was discovered to a viral infection of his heart. All through the term, he was found to be short of breath. After completing the term, Carl was diagnosed with viral heart failure. This caused Carl to leave his two jobs, as well as drop from school. For a year and a half, Carl was out of work. Shortly after rejoining the work force, Carl
